A global grassroots movement, Clubs for UNESCO supports the Organization’s priorities by using a community’s own experience, skills and outlook to foster peace and exchange. They consist of groups of people from all ages, from all walks of life and every background who share a firm belief in UNESCO’s ideals.

The primary purpose of the Clubs is to develop understanding and support for UNESCO and its programmes. They seek to disseminate UNESCO’s ideals and undertake activities directly inspired by those of the Organization, broaden cultural horizons and provide an invaluable service to UNESCO and to the National Commissions for UNESCO in supplementing public information activities.

The Clubs respect the founding principles of UNESCO and are non-profit making. They are also legally and financially independent from UNESCO.

UNESCO Clubs aim to:

  • Promote understanding of the aims and ideals of UNESCO and work for the success of their implementation;

  • Facilitate international understanding, cooperation and world peace;

  • Support human rights;

  • Contribute to the training in civics and democracy of their members; and

  • Participate in social development conceived as the attainment of the conditions most conducive to the full development of the human personality.

Four (4) main categories of UNESCO Clubs:

Clubs established in schools whose members are pupils and teachers in educational institutions;

  1. Clubs operating in universities and higher educational institutions, often established through the initiative of student groups;

  2. Clubs not intended specifically for schoolchildren or students but for a wider membership. These clubs have a clearly recognized legal status, and their membership includes leading members of the cultural and public service circles of the community; and

  3. Centres for UNESCO operating on a permanent basis, staffed by specialized personnel, with considerable financial resources.

Programs, projects and activities of UNESCO Clubs must be aligned to one or more of the following overarching objectives of UNESCO:

  • Attaining quality education for all and lifelong learning;

  • Mobilizing science knowledge and policy for sustainable development;

  • Addressing emerging social and ethical challenges;

  • Fostering cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace; and

  • Building inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication.

Application for Accreditation

The UNESCO National Commission (UNACOM) is responsible for the orientations and legitimacy of activities that are undertaken by the UNESCO Clubs. It is highly recommended that the “Practical Guide for UNESCO Clubs” be consulted before proceeding with the accreditation process. A copy of which may be downloaded at here.

The step-by-step process is as follows:

  1. Applicants must fill-up the Accreditation Application Form. Ensure that all the required information are provided. Do not alter or modify the Accreditation Form. Illegible or unreadable forms will not be processed.

  1. Email the completed Application Form to youth4unesco2020@gmail.com (please cc to unescoclubsph@gmail.com).

  1. Attach the following supporting documents to the Accreditation Form:

a. Letter of Intent signed by the Club Head and Club Adviser;

b. Constitution and By-Laws;

c. Financial Status Report for the last year;

d. Club Logo (in JPEG format)

e. Power point presentation containing the logo of the club and a picture of accomplished projects/activities (template to be provided by NCBUCP)

f. Endorsement letters outside from the club/organization

g. Other pertinent documents, if any (e.g. commendations, certifications, etc).

  1. Timeline for applications for accreditation:

Deadline of Applications: August 31, 2020

Accreditation Ceremony: TBA

  • Submitted applications will be screened by the National Coordinating Body of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NCBUCP), Inc. before endorsing to the UNACOM for final deliberations;

  • List of successful applicants shall be announced by NCBUCP through email with the invitation to the Accreditation Ceremony. Those clubs that will not make it will also be notified through email with the reason of the decline of application;

  • The Club Head and Adviser or at least two (2) of the successful club-applicants shall attend the Accreditation Ceremony and General Assembly. Absence will suspend club accreditation;

  • Accredited UNESCO Clubs will automatically be members of NCBUCP and must pay the membership fee of P 1,500 and submit an Annual Report before April 30 of the succeeding year to maintain good standing in the Association. Failure to do so may result to termination of accreditation.

CRITERIA FOR NEWLY-ACCREDITED UNESCO CLUBS

1. The vision and mission of the club should be inclined to the thrusts and ideals of United Nation Education, Science, and Culture Organization (UNESCO): Education, Science and Technology; Human and Social Sciences; Culture; and Communication.

2. The club must be established and run at least one year on the day of submission and headed by adviser/s with the club’s officers.

3. The club must have sustainable projects that help other people in their school and community without sacrificing the environment and the rights of others.

4. The club should have strong funding and/or budget that sustain the club’s project and other future activities and must have no issue with any credit.

5. The Logo of the club must be original and/or should not violate the guidelines on using the UNESCO logo.

6. The number of members of the club must be enough to execute the vision and mission of the club in the entire year.

7. The club must highly recommended to be one of the accredited UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines by the entitled person in the community or in school.

8. The club should be intended to be accredited UNESCO Club and not forced by anyone.

General

1. All the required documents are complete that submitted to the NCBUCP on time

2. The vision and mission of the club is inclined to the thrusts and ideals of UNESCO.

3. The club is established and run at least one year.

4. The logo of the club is original

5. The club is highly recommended by an entitled person

6. The number of members is enough to execute planned projects

Financial

1. The financial report is clear and specific

2. The financial report is signed and audited

3. The fund of the club can sustain the projects of the organization.

Accomplished activities

1. The activities of the club are exercising the thrusts and ideals of UNESCO

2. The club has numbers of sustainable projects.
